Students from Pope John XXIII and St. Boniface Catholic Schools participated in the 2019 Americanism Essay Contest sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Elgin Unit #229. The essay subject was “How can we address and prevent veteran homelessness in our communities?” The winning essays were forwarded to the Department of Nebraska American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Chairman for state judging. Students with first place essays from Pope John were Kayce Kallhoff, Marissa Preister and Paiton Hoefer. First place winners from St. Boniface Elementary were Darby Carstens and Gavin Kallhoff.
